Update for a rainy Saturday...

Saturday 18th May, 2013:

What's been happening since the last entry from August Bank Holiday, 2012??!!

The wine has been drank.. at least some of it has!

Christmas has come & gone... I did take some photos of the decorations I made:

Hearts and Stars...

Close-up...

Felt and button Christmas trees

Playing with the Christmas tree theme...

We've been spending time at the allotment... and in the garden... I need to add photos of the bonny flowers...

I'd also started to plan my entries for the 2013 Gateshead Flower Show... gathering the raw materials and inspiration pictures... but DISASTER!!! CANCELLED!!!! Due to Council cuts, the show is now cancelled... we'll need to start to look for other ways of pretentiously displaying our artistic talents!!!

Bank Holiday Update:

Still waiting for the energy & enthusiasm to tidy up from making all the Gateshead Flower Show things...

But at least we've managed to bottle the wines....
Now standing to settle before storing in the 'wine cellar'!!!!

Should be ready for Christmas...

Sunday 29 July 2012

Flower Show completed!

29th July already! Doesn't time fly when you're busy???

As written on 9th July, I did post the entries for the Flower Show, and we have spent most of the time since then finishing off the entries ready for staging on Thursday evening...
... However, when we arrived, there was no sign of our applications... How cross were we?!!! Especially as the closing date for one of the sections had been 16th July! Thankfully, the staff felt sorry for us, were incredibly helpful, and managed to get us in after making a few phone calls!!!...

So, how did we do? Well, between us we managed to get 16 prizes!!! Sean's will be on his Facebook page, but in summary he won prizes for making beer (including the silver salver for best beer in show!), making manly metalwork structures... and a flower arrangement!!!

As a record of my work, I'll add photos of winning and losing creative attempts:

My watercolour paintings didn't get any prizes:

My two 'any other craft' items didn't get anything, either:
A lace/ feather/ pearl neckpiece and matching fascinator with  birdcage veil.

A lace-covered bowler hat with flowers, feathers and net!

A bit more successful with the bookmark: 3rd place, same as my entry last year:

And 2nd for my metalwork neckpiece, beaten by Sean (why did I persuade him to finish it??!!):

This year I simplified my "Victorious" themed 'craft class' entries in the flower arrangement section, as the criticism for the last two years has been that I've done too much and made stuff too complex and confusing... guess what they said this year?:
Gold head with gold 'laurel leaves' - 3rd prize - needed more contrast...

2nd Prize:  Gold, silver and bronze 'Olympic Torches' and wirework with flowers and foliage the same as in the 2012 Olympic bouquets - needed more 'craft work'...

Photos were again the most successful:
However, nothing in the category 'A Popular Scene in Gateshead'

3rd in 'The Baltic's 10th Birthday'

But nothing for the other entries in that category:

1st in 'My Garden' category:
Spiders web in the broom at the bottom of the garden

But nothing for my preferred photo in that category:
Cherry Blossom

Most successful entries in the 'New Developments in Gateshead' category:

So, that's the end of the Flower Show for 2012.... and again we leave pleased with our winnings, but feeling that 'we was robbed' for the ones that didn't win.... and with full intention to start to make our entries early for next year's Show... not leaving it all til the last minute again....

Now... to get back to making the wine and working in the garden and on the allotment...

Monday 9 July 2012

9th July

Two demijohns of wine now cooling and settling for the next week or so before bottling...
Two still in the process of having finings 'n' other 'gubbins' added... but getting there...

Filled in entry forms for me and Sean to submit our entries into the Gateshead Flower Show... but no pictures of any of the entries yet... just in case fellow competitors are watching...
The entry forms will be posted tomorrow morning... then need to get cracking on the creativity...

Wednesday 4 July 2012

July Projects.

Two current projects... ongoing...

Wines:

Still in the process of shaking to get rid of the gasses...
Don't look too great at the moment... need to finish the degassing, add finings & leave to settle..

Preparation for the Gateshead Flower Show entries... 'though not yet sent in the entry forms!!

All 'work in progress... just waiting for inspiration!

Sunday 1 July 2012

Thought one... the beginning?

So, how many things have I got half-started?
I start with great enthusiasm, then something a bit shinier comes along, I get distracted & I end up with many, many things as good...great ideas, but added to the piles in my room...

Will writing about this help? Or will this also end up being one of those ideas relegated to the pile?
Like my website?

Perhaps I need to gather my thoughts together... write a list?... But will that just be another list to add to my pile of lists?

I'll just go & put the kettle on and procrastinate!!!...
