29th July already! Doesn't time fly when you're busy???
As written on 9th July, I did post the entries for the Flower Show, and we have spent most of the time since then finishing off the entries ready for staging on Thursday evening...
... However, when we arrived, there was no sign of our applications... How cross were we?!!! Especially as the closing date for one of the sections had been 16th July! Thankfully, the staff felt sorry for us, were incredibly helpful, and managed to get us in after making a few phone calls!!!...
So, how did we do? Well, between us we managed to get 16 prizes!!! Sean's will be on his Facebook page, but in summary he won prizes for making beer (including the silver salver for best beer in show!), making manly metalwork structures... and a flower arrangement!!!
As a record of my work, I'll add photos of winning and losing creative attempts:
My watercolour paintings didn't get any prizes:
My two 'any other craft' items didn't get anything, either:
|
A lace/ feather/ pearl neckpiece and matching fascinator with birdcage veil.
|
|
A lace-covered bowler hat with flowers, feathers and net! |
A bit more successful with the bookmark: 3rd place, same as my entry last year:
And 2nd for my metalwork neckpiece, beaten by Sean (why did I persuade him to finish it??!!):
This year I simplified my "Victorious" themed 'craft class' entries in the flower arrangement section, as the criticism for the last two years has been that I've done too much and made stuff too complex and confusing... guess what they said this year?:
|
Gold head with gold 'laurel leaves' - 3rd prize - needed more contrast... |
|
2nd Prize: Gold, silver and bronze 'Olympic Torches' and wirework with flowers and foliage the same as in the 2012 Olympic bouquets - needed more 'craft work'... |
Photos were again the most successful:
However, nothing in the category 'A Popular Scene in Gateshead'
3rd in 'The Baltic's 10th Birthday'
But nothing for the other entries in that category:
1st in 'My Garden' category:
|
Spiders web in the broom at the bottom of the garden |
But nothing for my preferred photo in that category:
|
Cherry Blossom |
Most successful entries in the 'New Developments in Gateshead' category:
So, that's the end of the Flower Show for 2012.... and again we leave pleased with our winnings, but feeling that 'we was robbed' for the ones that didn't win.... and with full intention to start to make our entries early for next year's Show... not leaving it all til the last minute again....
Now... to get back to making the wine and working in the garden and on the allotment...
